This paper describes the importance of analyzing the slope behaviour and proper monitoring of cut slopes. A brief overview on different type of slope movement, parameters to be monitored in a cut slope and selection of instruments is presented. As quite often observed the slope movements are extremely slow and imperceptible to the eye, and catastrophic failures are quite infrequent. However, cumulative movements at these slower rates do, over time, cause considerable distress to structures and disrupt residential areas and infrastructure routes. Therefore, it becomes important to install a monitoring system (preferably automated) which gives prior warning before any significant movement in slopes.
