Abstract

Rock Eval pyrolysis data of coals from Dilli River Section, Tipong and Tirap coal mines from Upper Assam basin indicate their high hydrocarbon generation potential but they are not matured enough to generate oil. These coals are characterized by Type II and Type III kerogens/organic matter. Thermal extract-GC-MS analysis also indicates their immaturity to generate hydrocarbons. The study reveals that the coals will generate significant amount of waxy, liquid hydrocarbons with little amount of gas, after attaining sufficient maturity.
