Abstract

The North American Shale Composite (NASC) normalized Rare Earth Element (REE) distribution pattern of five core samples from the Bengal Sea Fan clearly exhibits different types of trends reflecting climatic fluctuations during the Late Quartanary period. Based on the REE ratios in the Core Sediments of Bengal Sea Fan, an almost flat shale normalized pattern can be seen that shows Terrigenous input of particulate REE to Bengal Sea Fan. Furthermore, Rivers which are the main source of REE to the Ocean Basins probably delivered the Terrigenous particles to the Bengal Sea Fan (BSF). Furthermore, the down core variation of Foraminifers indicates Petroleum at the Sediment core sites.
