Abstract

Groundwater is broadly utilized for drinking and irrigation purposes in the present study area Yalal, Basheerabad and Tandur Mandal of Vikarabad district. In order to access the water quality of the study area, thirty-five groundwater samples were collected during pre- and post-monsoon periods, and analysed for major ions. Results have indicated that Conductivy (EC) 11% and 11% in pre- and post-monsoon, sodium (Na+) 6% in pre-monsoon, bicarbonate (HCO3-) 3% in pre-monsoon, chloride (Cl-) 29% and 14% in pre- and post-monsoon season’s samples have exceeded WHO, (2011), limits. Groundwater samples are alkaline in nature, and based on results from pre- and post-monsoon seasons, they are suggested to be safe for drinking. According (IWQI) Irrigation water quality indicies in the study area, the range is from lesser limitation (LR) to severe restriction (SR). Five classes have been identified based on the results. Groundwater is broadly utilized for drinking and irrigation purposes in the present study area of Yalal, Basheerabad and Tandur Mandal in Vikarabad district. In order to access water quality in the study area, thirty-five samples define MR, having a higher percentage i.e. 51.40% and 48.60% throughout both the seasons. Sodium Adsorption Ratio (SAR), was also computed to better understand groundwater quality for irrigational usages.
