One hundred twenty seven (127) diarrheic fecal samples collected from dairy farms of Mathura, India were screened for rotaviruses by RNA-Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (RNA PAGE). These were further characterized on the basis of P types (VP4 gene) by a nested multiplex Reverse transcriptase Polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) assay. P typing revealed the presence of the P1 type in two samples yielding a product size of 463 bp an indicator of P1 type. This paper also describes the attempt to isolate the rotavirus in cell culture. The present study reveals the presence of P1 type of bovine rotavirus in Mathura, India.
