Antibiogram of Listeria spp. isolated from reproductive disorders and livestock products of ruminants
Abstract
Listeriosis is a severe human and animal disease caused by species of the genus Listeria monocytogenes being the most frequent. Inadvertent use of antimicrobial drugs in animals leads to emergence of resistant pathogens which may be transmitted to humans through livestock products. The present study deals with the in vitro antimicrobial sensitivity of Listeria spp. isolated from 246 samples of reproductive disorders and 113 livestock products of ruminants against 9 antimicrobial drugs. The results revealed Gentamycin to be most effective against the isolates inhibiting the growth of 100% isolates, while Sulfafurazole was least effective.
