Abstract

Backyard poultry and wild pigeons from all the 6 parishes of Grenada were surveyed for hemoparasites by microscopic blood smear examination from August to December 2009. The overall prevalence was found out to be 46.7% [95% (CI)]. Three haemoprotozoans were identified viz., Plasmodium spp, Haemoproteus spp., and Leukocytozoon spp. Sixty seven birds were found to be infected with single infection where as mixed infections were found in 25 birds.
