Jatropha curcas is probably the most highly promoted oilseed crop at present, which promises to mitigate energy crisis and environmental pollution. J. curcas oil, an inedible vegetable oil, can be a substitute feedstock for traditional food crops in the production of environment friendly and renewable fuel. Jatropha oil and its various plant parts have several applications and enormous economic benefits. The seed oils of various Jatropha biotypes were screened out and evaluated for their physiochemical parameters viz Seed Index (500-580gms), oil content (19–35%), moisture content (2.0–6.0%), ash content (3.0–6.0%), acid value (3.5–30), density (0.91030.9322 g/cm3), viscosity (5–37 mm2/s), saponification value (190.5–207.8 mg/g), iodine value (90.6–100.8 mg/g), cetane value (42.35–53.26°C), free fatty acid value (3.5–8.6%) and refractive index (1.4588–1.4800).
