Economic analysis of biomass briquettes production in India

Biomass briquettes are a bio fuel substitute to coal and charcoal. Briquetting of agro residues has been practiced for many years in most countries. Biomass briquettes, mostly made of green waste and other organic materials, are commonly used for electricity generation, heat, and cooking fuel. These compressed compounds contain various organic materials, including cotton stalk, tamarind waste, rice husk, bagasse, ground nut shells, and other agricultural crops waste. Present study aims to analyze cost and returns in the biomass briquettes production industry. The net returns realized in production of biomass briquettes was 1108.57 Rs./tone. Financial ratios like fixed ratio, operating ratio and gross ratio revealed the operational efficiency of the firm. The results of the overall study revealed the biomass briquettes production is a profitable venture in Maharashtra state of India.
