Energy management system (EMS) is important not only to save energy, reduce carbon emission, creation of more employment but also catalyse third party investment in the development of new low carbon technology products and companies, in commercialization of new low carbon technologies, and also helped customers to save billions of currency. The large number of case studies on EMS has proved the efficacy of EMS in providing success to control, monitor and improve energy efficiency. A variety of EMS, based on BIM technology, radio frequency identification (RFID), energy information data, algorithm for building energy consumption analysis, internet of things are availab le and one can easily chose the most appropriate technology as per need. Both technology and management are the key parameters for its successful implementation. ISO 50001:2018 is a crucial tool for energy management professionals to understand energy management processes, shortlisting events for regulatory policies, technical processes, adaptable procedures and energy specific-tasks.
