Agro-industrial wastes are those, which can be generated either as discards in the field during harvesting and collection, or through processing of agricultural products in industries. Agricultural products can be of either animal or plant origin. Profuse quantities of these wastes are generated on a daily basis throughout the world, and mostly remain untreated, underutilized, as only about 20% of these are processed. In the context of the ensuing acute shortage offossil fuel, and global concerns about climate change, bio-alcohol has gained significant research and application potential throughout the world. All developed and almost all developing countries apply bio-alcohol as a portion of the fuel used to drive their economies. This study extensively reviews utilization of some of these wastes that can be efficiently utilized for bio-alcohol production. Many such fermentation processes have gained commercial acceptance, and are routinely used to minimize and recycle these wastes.
