Disposal of solid waste is a major issue throughout the globe. Municipal solid waste management (MSW ) is a main factor in this challenge of an environment. In India many developed or developing cities are fighting with this challenge as this country is generating more than 15 million metric ton (MMT) of solid waste every day in which commercial and residential waste either in solid or semisolid state excluding industrial hazardous waste are included. Present work amasses the work done till date on MSW, especially focusing on plastic waste and waste animal fat that can be used in compression ignition engines in order to provide an alternative to diesel.
