Analysis of air quality of Delhi and AQI forecast using SARIMAX

Abstract

The scope of the current work is to study the seasonality and the meteorological reasons behind the air pollution in Delhi. Lately, the air pollution in Delhi has seen a spike due to the changing livelihoods over the past decade. The study aimed to infer a trend with various pollutant levels in various cities of the country between the period of 2015- 2020. Furthermore, a comparison was made with major cities against Delhi to better understand the severity of the situation. An annual pollutant-wise comparison gave clarity on how measures taken by the government have impacted AQI (Air Quality Index). A regression-based SARIMAX (Seasonal Auto-Regressive Integrated Moving Average with exogenous factors) model was used to forecast AQI in Delhi or the major cities of India, which can not only be used as a health alarm for the residents but can also be used to implement necessary measures well ahead of time and thereby reduce health hazards and consequential respiratory disorders significantly.
