Biomass is primary as well as renewable energy sources. Numbers of technologies are available to harness energy from biomass. Among that gasification is the valid process which converts biomass into producer gas. Producer gas consists of H2, CO, CO2, CH4, N2 and water vapour and some other impurities such as hydrocarbons (Tar), suspended particulate matter as well as some gaseous contaminants. These contaminants cause severe problem in application of producer gas. Hence, it is mandatory to remove tar and impurities before application. In the present work, dosing of hydroxides (NaOH and KOH) for cleaning of producer gas was done. Producer gas passed through different concentrations of hydroxide solution to attain the best quality of gas. The cleaning efficiency of optimized concentration was further enhanced by increasing the temperature and residence time of the dosing solution. The results show that the 30% NaOH concentration gives maximum cleaning efficiency (90.9%) at 70°C temperature compared to optimized KOH. Hence, the study proves that the cleaning efficiency of NaOH is much better than KOH.
