The evaluation of Awala (Emblica officinalis) for its activity against liver disorders was studied in 12 clinical cases of cattle suffering from liver disorders. Awala was administered orally @ 200 mg/kg body weight once a day orally for 10 days in cattle with liver disorder. The efficacy was assessed on the basis of biochemical profile of transaminases (AST and ALT) and general health condition. It was observed that there was significant (P < 0.01) drop in initial AST levels i.e. 85.17 ± 4.53 I. U./L to 40.28 ± 1.065I. U./L after 10 days of treatment. Similarly, ALT levels were also declined from their initial 40.15 ± 1.02 I.U./L to 29.79 ± 0.79 I.U./L levels after completion of treatment. From the results it was observed that Awala could be used for the treatment of liver disorder in cattle.
