<p>Reproductive traits such as age at first calving and calving interval are known to have direct bearing on lifetime performance of buffaloes. The present investigation was undertaken to study the correlation between the reproductive traits in Surti buffaloes.</p><p>The 252 reproductive records on 90 Surti buffaloes maintained at Buffalo Breeding Farm, Hingoli (M.S) were collected over a period of 18 years from 1986–2004. The correlation coefficients were calculated using statistical methods (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="bib005">Snedecor and Cochran, 1994</xref>). The breeding efficiency were calculated as per Wilcox <italic>et al</italic>. (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="bib007">1957</xref>) and Tomar (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="bib006">1965</xref>).</p><p>The correlation coefficients between various reproductive traits in Surti buffaloes are presented in <xref ref-type="table" rid="tab001">Table 1</xref>. Correlation coefficients for age at first calving with calving interval, service period, BE (Wilcox) were low and non-significant with high standard error while it was negative and significantly correlated with BE (Tomar). These findings are in agreement with the finding of Pathodiya <italic>et al</italic>. Similar results have been reported by Jain and Tailor (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="bib001">1994</xref>) in Surti buffaloes. The correlation coefficients for calving interval and service period with both the breeding efficiencies were negative and significant (P < 0.01). The present findings are in agreement with those reported by Shashidhara <italic>et al</italic>. (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="bib004">1998</xref>) in Surti & Sahana and Sadana (<xref ref-type="bibr" rid="bib003">1999</xref>) in Murrah buffaloes. The correlation coefficient between Breeding efficiency (Wilcox) and Breeding efficiency (Tomar) was positive and significant (P < 0.01).</p></sec></body><back><ref-list><title>References
