Curing of drug resistant and virulent plasmids of Escherichia Coli

The study on curing of drug resistant and virulent plasmids of E. coli carried out to confirm plasmid borne characters. Thirteen E. coli isolates were exposed to SDS for curing of drug resistance. The resistance of ampicillin in 50 %, oxytetracycline in 57.14 %, chloramphenicol in 33. %, nalidixic acid in 66.66 % and co-trimaxazole in 75 % isolates were cured at different frequencies, whereas SDS failed to cure tetracycline resistance. Out of eight haemolysin producing isolates exposed to 7 % SDS for the elimination of plasmids, six (75%)were found to be cured. However, SDS could not cure Hly plasmids in two isolates. Out of six enterotoxigenic E. coli exposed to SDS treatment, four (66.66%) lost enterotoxigenicity.
