Abstract

Variable doses of ketamine hydrochloride in combination with fixed dosage of fentanyl citrate were administered epidurally in 6 dogs and its clinico-physiological effects were studied. A synergistic dose dependent effect of ketamine on fentanyl induced analgesia and sedation was observed during the study. Fentanyl induced depression in heart, pulse and respiration rate was compensated and antagonized by the simultaneous epidural administration of ketamine.
