The study has been conducted to compare the effect & efficacy of LM & powder methionine on performance of broilers. Two hundred day-old “Vencob” broiler chicks were divided into four equal groups of 50 birds each viz, A, B, C and D. Group A was control with powder form of methionine (99% activity), group B in which powder methionine was replaced by LM in the ratio of 1:1.125 (assuming 88% activity), group C in which the powder methionine was replaced by LM in the ratio of 1:1.16 (assuming 85% activity) and group D in which the powder methionine was replaced by LM in the ratio of 1:1.24 (assuming 80% activity). At the end of trial carcass evaluation & economics of broiler production were studies. It was noticed that average live weight and gain in weight from various groups statistically non-significant. Feed consumption of birds receiving LM at various levels was non-significant. LM had almost negligible effect on feed conversion ratio of birds. The eviscerated yield of birds in LM group was higher than control group. However, the differences were marginal. Abdominal fat pad percentage was numerically lower from control group indicating LM helped to reduce the abdominal fat pad percentage. Breast meat yield and its thickness were higher in LM group. LM group recorded better returns and higher net profit as compared to control. The efficacy of LM in comparison to powder methionine is about 88% as group B recorded almost comparable live weight, feed consumption and feed conversion ratio to that of control in the present study. Hence, it is concluded that the use of LM in broiler birds is useful in recording comparable performance with powder methionine & the efficacy was found to be 88%.
