The experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of chromium picolinate on some blood parameters and carcass quality. Three hundred day-old broiler chicks were divided into six equal groups. The groups from A to F were received chromium picolinate at 0, 0.4, 0.8, 1.2, 1.6 and 2.4 g/T, respectively. Birds from group C recorded lower blood glucose level than control. Chromium picolinate reduces blood glucose level, although statistically non-significant. Group F recorded significantly lower cholesterol level than group C. However, group D recorded significantly higher serum cholesterol level than group A, B, E and F. All the treatment groups recorded lower serum triglycerides level than control, although statistically non-significant. Carcass evaluation studies revealed that chromium picolinate reduces liver weight percentage and abdominal fat pad percentage with non-consistent effect on gizzard weight percentage and heart weight percentage. Similarly, chromium picolinate reduces ether extract content and increases crude protein content of breast muscle. However, effect of chromium picolinate on antibody titre against NCD was non-conclusive but improves antibody titer against IBD virus. Hence, it is concluded that supplementation of chromium picolinate reduces blood glucose and serum triglycerides marginally but had non-consistent effect on serum cholesterol level of birds and improves carcass quality.
