This study was undertaken on 12 healthy male horses, randomly divided into two groups viz; group I and group II of six horses each. The horses of both the groups were sedated with xylazine hydrochloride @ 0.5 mg/kg and 1.0 mg/kg respectively, 15 minutes prior to the intravenous injection of bolus dose of propofol (3 mg/kg). Clinical parameters like heart rate, respiratory rate and rectal temperature were recorded before and at fixed intervals after the administration of propofol anaesthesia as well as after complete recovery. Induction time, duration of anaesthesia, quality of anaesthesia, quality of recovery and complete recovery were also studied. Non significant difference was noted in heart rate and rectal temperature in both the groups, whereas significant difference was noted in respiration during the anaesthesia in between the groups. However, all the values were within the normal physiological limits.
