Abstract

Haematological profile during gestation and lactation was studied in 72 Mehsana buffaloes. The animals were grouped as Early Gestation, Mid Gestation, Late Gestation, Early Lactation, Mid Lactation, and Late Lactation. Haematological parameters viz Erythrocyte count, Hb, HCT, MCV, MCH, MCHC, Leucocyte count and Platelet count were done on fully automatic haematology analyzer and differential count was done manually. The results of various parameters were tabulated and data were statistically analysed. The physiological anaemia which is generally observed in late gestation was not noticed in the present study. Higher values of Hb, HCT and TLC were recorded in gestation group than in lactation group. When Late Gestation and Early Lactation groups were compared, there was reduction in Erythrocyte count and Haemoglobin concentration, lymphopenia, eosinopinea, neutrophilia and leucocytosis in Early Lactation group. In lactation groups, Platelet count, Monocyte % and MCH indicated significant (P<0.05) variations. These above changes might be related to lactogenesis in Early Lactation group.
