Abstract

The study was conducted on six apparently healthy mongrel dogs of either sex weighing between 15–20 kg and haemato-biochemical effects of propofol alone and in combination with xylazine or acepromazine as premedicants were studied.. The haematological parameters like PCV, Hb, TEC and TLC showed non-significant decrease in all three treatment groups. Whereas significant increase in neutrophil count and decrease in lymphocyte count was noticed in all the treatment groups. The eosinophils and monocytes did not show any significant changes. The biochemical parameters like glucose and total bilirubin showed significant increase in all the three treatment groups. Whereas ALT, ALP and BUN were increased non-significantly in all the three treatment groups while serum total protein and serum creatinine revealed no significant changes in all the three treatment groups.
