Abstract

The present study was undertaken to evaluate the blood hematological parameters of four female leopards aged 12 to 18 years, kept in captivity at Veer Jijamata Bhosale Udyan, Byculla, Mumbai. Blood samples (4 to 5 ml) were collected in clean sterile EDTA vials by sacro-cocxygeal venupuncture. The hematological parameters were studied from whole blood using standard methods. The mean values of hematological parameters studied were: Hb (12 ± 0.29g %), RBC (12.1 ± 0.55x106/cumm), WBC (13,150 ± 717.05x103/cumm), ESR (50.25 ± 7.81mm/hr), PCV (40 ± 2.45%), MCV(68.24 ± 9.64%), MCH (20.28 ± 2.02%), MCHC (30.30 ± 1.79%), Neutrophill (78.5 ± 3.30%), Lymphocyte (16.75 ± 3.28%), Eosinophill (2.75 ± 0.63%), Monocyte (2.5 ± 0.9%) and Basophill (0%). Thevalues were in normal range, except neutrophill which were higher and lymphocytes which were slightly lower as reported by other workers.
