Lipid base and lipid free propofol was used for induction of anaesthesia with or without prior sedation of xylazine in 24 clinical cases of dogs presented for different major or minor surgeries. No significant alteration in rectal temperature, respiratory rate, heart rate, mean systolic and diastolic blood pressure was observed during anesthesia and recovery. Quality of induction on anesthesia was very good in all the four groups. Similarly, quality of recovery was smooth, rapid and pleasant in all the four groups. However, prolongation of time of recovery was observed in xylazine-preanesthetized dogs.
