Abstract

Cytogenetic investigation was carried out on Red Kandhari cattle by short-term lymphocytes culture technique to study the G- and C-banding patterns. Blood samples were collected from adjoining village of Parbhani. The G- and C-band patterns obtained in the present study helped in identifying almost all the chromosomes. All acrocentric autosomes were C-band positive and all sex chromosomes were C band negative. The X-chromosome showed a distinct negative G band at central region of q arm. Y chromosome showed prominent dark G-band near centromere.
