Socio-economic Impact of Babycorn Cultivation in Haryana

Abstract

The present study was conducted in Sonepat district in Haryana state of India. A total of 120 (60 babycorn + 60 non-babycorn) farmers were interviewed using semi-structured interview schedule. There was a perceptible socio-economic impact of babycorn cultivation found in terms of increase in employment, income, savings, possession of assets, social prestige and satisfaction. Babycorn farmers also had significant improvement in their housing. Baby corn played a significant role in ensuring livelihood security and augmenting income level of farmers in rural areas of the study area.
