Abstract

An ethno-veterinary survey was conducted in the field during 2015–2016 in which indigenous practices were gathered from 180indigenous cattle holder and healer through semi-structured interview schedule. Further, rationality scale, mean perceived effectiveness index and adoption rate were calculated to find out the validity of these practices both from farmers and scientific perspective. Out of documented ITKs, 47 ITKs find rational during scientific validation. In further categorization of these 47 ITKs based on MPEI, 16 ITKs were found as rational (>2.5) and highly effective (>2.5), 26 rational (>2.5) and effective (2 to 2.5) and 5 rational (>2.5) and less effective (<2). The results of the study emphasize to documentation and validation of this tactic knowledge for further use among the indigenous cattle holder in particular places for sustainable livestock rearing along with modern veterinary drug.
