Abstract

This study was conducted to design and develop some ergonomic interventions for physically challenged people. On the basis of the suggestions of the wheel-chair using females and literature reviewed, modifications were done in knife, peeler, kitchen counter and wheelchair. For evaluation of the interventions, lab experiments were conducted where subjects were made to perform the peeling and chopping of potatoes using the interventions and the evaluation of the interventions was done on the basis of cardiovascular responses of the subjects while working under existing and modified conditions. Results revealed that interventions helped in minimizing increase in heart rate, bringing down the energy expenditure values significantly and in minimizing the exertion of the subjects. Majority of the subjects were satisfied with the intervention.
