Social institution emphasizes relationship between people and the norms which guide the behaviour and family as a social institution. A family as a group, on the other hand, refers to relatives living under one roof or close enough so that frequent interaction causes them to be identified as a single family as a group. This present study was conducted in Morar block of Gwalior district comprises of four blocks namely-Morar, Ghatigaon, Dabra and Bhitarwar. The sample of the study consisted of randomly selected 300 rural women from twelve villages under these four blocks. Results of the study reveals that due to Mahila Samridhi Yojana there has been separation of the beneficiaries from their joint family to from elementary or nuclear family. It is further evident that majority of the beneficiary respondents take the help of their wives in their work in decision making to assess household matters’, ‘marriage settlements’ ‘business affairs’ and social functions’. Hence this study reflects the visible and significant social change as the effect of the Mahila Samridhi Yojana.
