Occupational Health Hazards of Leather Industry Workers, Precautions and Causative Measures Used by Them

Abstract

Occupational health is concerned with the health and safety matters at work place. Industry workers may be exposed to different types of hazards depending upon the occupation. The workers employed in the tannery industries faced many problems and suffered from various diseases as observed by the researcher being a local resident of Kanpur. Total 90 industry workers were taking as a respondent in different industries these were 30 leather processing units, leather production units and leather processing and production combined units. Majority of the respondent working in leather industry were facing occupational health hazards such as: respiratory illness, eye, ear, heart and skin problems, mechanical, chemical, ergonomic, psychological hazards, main caus es of these hazards were dust and chemicals followed by working condition, noise, chemical fumes, dampness and temperature and what kind of prevention workers were applied and industry provides the facilities to the workers and causative measures applied during causes.
