Abstract

The study was conducted in Davanagere district of Karnataka state. All the six taluks were included in the study with 144 randomly selected NHM beneficiaries from 24 villages. The data were collected through pre-tested structured interview schedule by personal interview method. The statistical analysis reveals that majority of NHM beneficiaries belongs to middle age group (43.75%), high education (38.89%), small family size (42.36%), medium land holdings (46.53%), low farming experience (40.28%), medium sources of information consultancy pattern (41.66%), high extension participation (38.90%), medium innovative proneness (49.31%), medium achievement motivation (44.44%), high risk orientation (64.58%), medium scientific orientation (53.47%) and deferred gratification (97.92%). The variables horticulture farming experience, scientific orientation and management orientation had highly significant relationship at one per cent level, whereas, sources of information, extension contact, innovative proneness and achievement motivation had significant relationship with standard of living at 5 per cent level. The study also revealed that 43 per cent of the variation in the standard of living of beneficiaries due to participation NHM programme could be explained by all the 16 personal, socio-economic and psychological characteristics of NHM beneficiaries.
