Abstract

The study was conducted with an objective to knowing the adoption level of Kitchen Garden by the farmers trained from 2011 to 2015 in the Jalandhar district of Punjab. A list of 348 trained farmers on kitchen gardening during the period 2011–2015 was obtained from KVK, Jalandhar. Almost all the respondents were practicing organic methods of vegetable production by following the application of farmyard manure, cow urine and roughing of infected leaves/plants. Almost all the respondents were purchasing the seed from a reliable source of seed and grown own nursery. All the respondents grow vegetables from different vegetable groups, and the vegetable crops grown were bottle gourd, sponge guard, pumpkin, squash melon, cauliflower, turnip, radish, carrot, spinach, Methe and Methi. Almost all the respondents share their surplus produce with their neighbours and relatives. The majority of the respondents adopted less than the recommended area in kitchen gardening.
