Abstract

Field study was conducted to examine the performance of strawberry cultivars at research field of KVK Poonch of SKUAST-Jammu. During the 2019–2020, the cultivars tested were Chandler, Camarosa, Gurela, Katrain Sweet and Selva. The experiment was laid out in a randomized block design. The results revealed that Katrain sweet and Chandler has produced the maximum plant height, whereas the maximum plant spread, number of leaves and number of runners were recorded in Katrain Sweet. Whereas fruit length (3.84 cm), No. of fruits/plant (24.45), fruit weight (15.35 g) and fruit yield (820.28 g/plant) has been recorded highest in Chandler among all the tested cultivars. With respect to fruit chemical properties, TSS (12.02 ° Brix), Acidity (0.87%), reducing sugar (5.08%) and total sugar (5.40%) were also recorded highest in cv. Chandler among all cultivars. Selva cultivar recorded highest ascorbic acid (71.61%). These results indicated that chandler variety is an adequate choice as a main cultivar for production under mid hills conditions of district Poonch (J&K).
