E-learning provides various benefits and opportunities to the students and teachers but this system has to keep balance with the issues and challenges to implement it successfully. Demographic profile of students and their readiness to integrate the online-learning system need to establish and dealt with adequately before execution of e-learning in higher education. The present study aimed to study the access of e tools and effect of demographic variables of the students in higher education on their perception towards e-learning. Interestingly the study was conducted four well established universities in Punjab state just prior to lockdown and its results can be contributing to plan online learning during lock down too, besides being useful in implementing them in blended learning. The results show that majority of the students had access to e-tools but had limited data plan as they were highly dependent upon Wi-Fi facility in colleges and hostels. Family background and family type were found to be significantly associated with perception towards e learning. Parents’ education and family income were significantly positively related to student’s perception towards e-learning. The study recommends that these attributes of student’s personal profile need to be considered for successful execution of e learning in higher education institutes.
