Abstract

Information and communications technology (ICT) is an extensional term for information technology (IT). In India, the need for reforms in education by harnes sing new ICTs is increasingly being acknowledged as essential by universities and cultural organizations across India. The National Policy for ICT in Education, under formulation, highlights the need to incorporate ICT as a subject in the curriculum as well as to reinforce the overall teaching learning process. The progress in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) has led to changes that are affecting all aspects of our societies and becoming important in our daily lives. Education is the sector that has benefited most from the advancements of ICTs. ICT has also made the impact on helping students to surf for the information which is normally not available to them. The present study on “Extent, purpose and preference of utilization of information and communication technologies (ICTs) by the teachers and students” was conducted in CCS HAU Hisar and the data was collected by the questionnaire method with the sample size of 100 teachers and 150 students. The data was collected on Extent, purpose and preference of utilization of ICTs by the teachers and students. The findings of the study depicted that majority of the teachers (91.00%) and students (87.33%) utilized ICT tools to a greater extent. The Internet and MS power point (94.00%) were highly used for gaining knowledge and making presentation respectively by the teachers. Teachers and students prefer to use ICT tools as these tools saves their time as well as need based. Hence, it can be said that ICT tools are really good for knowledge enhancement. Extent, purpose and preference of utilization also revealed the use of internet, online journals and social media to access for the financial, health, recreational and educational services.
