Agriculture continues to be the mainstay of our country’s economy. Nearly 85 per cent of the population lives in rural areas. Majority of the rural families depend on the agriculture and allied activities for their livelihood. According to census 2001, women constitute 48.26 per cent of the total population of India and 25.67 per cent of the female population are designated as workers. Sirsi taluk of Uttarakannada district of Karnataka state has taken as a study area. Three villages were taken and in each village ten respondents were selected randomly with a condition that each respondents are actively involved in the income generating activities. more than half of the respondents (53.33%) expressed they availed 2001-4000 Rs income per month out of income generating activities. 43.33% of respondents expressed that they gained respect in the society. 43.33% of the respondents revealed they need capacity building through training and exposure visits to successful entrepreneurs unit. In production related constraints, majority of the respondents (56.68%) expressed that Scarcity of skilled labour is a major problem followed by Lack of scientific knowledge (26.66%) and Quality input availability (16.66%).
