Environment, Health and Social Impact of Talwandi Sabo Power Plant Limited (TSPL) Mansa

Development is a planned change and to improve the standard of living and well-being of the population. It brings certain changes in the socio-economic life of the people and even brings environmental changes. Social Impact Assessment (SIA) is the technique to study the impacts of any development projects on the lives of masses. Present study was planned with specific objective to assess the social, health and environment impact of Talwandi Sabo Power Plant Limited (TSPL), Mansa of Punjab state. The most affected by the plant, village Peron had been purposely selected. Sixty respondents were randomly selected from the village and interviewed personally. It was found that villagers had developed many health problems like skin allergy, cancer, lungs problem, heart diseases and reproduction problems in human as well as in cattle. Villagers were living in socially disturbed and they pollutant environment. Villagers were seeking sincere help from government and plant authorities to overcome the problems, so that they can have in a clean and healthy environment.
