The present study has been designed and formulated to find the effect of family type on academic motivation and academic self-concept of elementary school children from Haryana and Bihar state and 400 elementary school children were taken randomly for the study. The subject was selected from sixteen schools, 200 children from each state (four Governments and four Private schools). The self-designed socio-demographic questionnaire was used to study the socio-demographic characteristics of elementary school children of the present study. Academic motivation and Academic self-concept of elementary school children were assessed through the Academic Motivation Scale (AMS) by Vallerand (1992) and using Academic Self Concept Scale (ASCS) by Kamble and Naik (2011) respectively. Results revealed that overall academic motivation and academic self-concept mean scores in rural areas of Haryana and Bihar was more in the nuclear family while in urban areas of Haryana and Bihar the overall mean scores of the nuclear family were also higher.
