Role of Cluster Frontline Demonstration (CFLD) for Yield Improvement of Chickpea in Koderma District in Chhota Nagpur plateau of Jharkhand

The present study was conducted in Koderma District in Chhota Nagpur plateau of Jharkhand situated at Central North-Eastern Plateau Situated 275-670 m above mean-sea level average rainfall is 1093.4 mm during the year 2019-20 to 2021-22 by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Koderma, Jharkhand. Conducted 158 Cluster frontline demonstrations on Chickpea in 40 ha area under rain fed condition in Koderma district in the farmer’s fields of selected villages of Dandadih, Lohadanda and Sardarodih district of Koderma Jharkhand. The objective was to transfer the technology to increase the productivity and quality of chickpea through CFLD, various types of interventions viz., Varietal, Seed treatment, Plant Protection management, Rhizobium, Irrigation, INM and IPM. High yielding variety of chickpea JAKI 9218 was given to the farmers and basal application of 20 kg N + 60 kg P₂O₅ + 20 kg K₂O/ha form of DAP & MOP and Zinc sulphate @ 25 kg/ha as per recommendation in demonstration plot were advised. The seed was treated before sowing. It was observed that in cluster front line demonstrations, the improved chickpea variety JAKI 9218 recorded an average yield of 1627, 1550 and 1510 kg/ha were much higher than as compared to the average yield of farmers practices 1450, 1120 and 1340 kg/ha respectively during 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-2022. The average percentage increased in the yield over farmer’s practices was 15.31,38.39 and 12.68 for the year 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-2022 respectively. The technology gap was found 128 kg to 290 kg over the potential yield. The highest extension gap of 290 kg/ha was recorded in 2021-2022 and the lowest was observed 128 kg/ha in 2019-2020. From these results, it is evident that the performance of improved variety was found better than the local check under the same environmental conditions.
