Abstract

The present study was conducted to identify the constraints faced by general and commercial dairy farmers during the procurement of various inputs of dairy farming by collecting the data through personal interview schedule in six major agroclimatic zones of Punjab state such as undulating plain, sub-mountainous undulating, western plain, western region, central plain and flood prone region. The data revealed that all the respondents ranked the economic constraints at first followed by constraints related to dairy production and knowledge/skill. However, within the different categories of major constraints, the extent varied among general and commercial dairy farmers. There was a significant difference among the general and commercial dairy farmers in the constraints faced during procurement of various inputs of dairy farming. The provision of loans at reasonable interest rate to needy dairy farmers and organizing awareness and training programmes among dairy farmers on various animal husbandry practices will reduce the constraints among the dairy farmers and in turn will enhance milk production and increase the income from dairy farming.
