Analysis of Procurement Pattern and Requirement of Livestock Advisory Services by Dairy Farmers of Punjab

The present study was conducted through personal interview schedule to analyze the procurement pattern and requirement of livestock advisory services by the general and commercial dairy farmers of Punjab. The area of study was six major agro-climatic zones of Punjab such as undulating plain, sub-mountainous undulating, western plain, western region, central plain and flood prone region. It was found that apart from the other sources of procurement of livestock advisory services, commercial dairy farmers procured services most commonly from MNC VO and their fellow PDFA member farmers. Among the impersonal source of livestock advisory services, internet was used more by commercial dairy farmers than general dairy farmers. Livestock advisory services in health management are more required followed by feeding, livestock, housing, equipment and finance by both the general and commercial dairy farmers. It is suggested that information regarding insurance and subsidy need to be disseminated through different sources as it ranks lowest as compared to the other aspects of dairy farming
