Abstract

Cut-flower is mostly marketed in unorganized markets. International Flower Auction Bengaluru (IFAB) is the only organized cut flower market in India. Rose production is season neutral. Demand plays crucial role in its price determination. Using secondary data on daily auction prices of IFAB (2016-19), weekly seasonal price index is calculated. This paper presents seasonality in prices of only 5 major rose varieties. While May month (18th week) fetched good price for all varieties, varieties differed in seasonality of their prices. For Taj Mahal variety, prices indices peaked in May and February. Gold strike prices had similar peaks in 7th, 18th, 45th, 52nd weeks. The study observed a weak correlation between arrival and prices. Systematic estimation of total demand contributes to enhance farmer’s income.
