Abstract

COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in altered daily habits and lifestyle modifications. Adolescents are a vital part of society, and the behavior they develop at this time will follow them into adulthood.

This study aimed to investigate the effects of COVID-19 on the lifestyle behaviors of adolescent girls.

A cross-sectional study was conducted among 120 urban adolescent girls of Udaipur, Rajasthan. Subjects were purposively selected from two schools in Udaipur district, Rajasthan. A well-structured questionnaire was developed and pretested, consisting of data on lifestyle behaviors before and during the pandemic by personally interviewing the subjects keeping in mind the COVID-19 guidelines.

There was a significant decrease in sleeping hours’ habit of skipping meals, whereas an increase in screen time and sitting time, anxiety, the habit of doing exercise, duration of exercise, and intake of dietary supplements were noticed. No significant change was noted in the case of doing household chores, consumption of tobacco/gutkha, smoking and habit of following diet therapy, and type of exercise done.

Mixed effect on lifestyle behavior of adolescent girls was noticed.
