Abstract

The current research was conducted purposively in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir to analyze the impact of agro-met advisory services provided by District Agro-meteorological Unit (DAMU), Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kathua under different agro-climatic zones i.e. subtropical, intermediate and temperate since 2020 for the benefit of farming community. Among these three zones, two zones (subtropical and intermediate) were selected randomly. A total sample size of 110 beneficiaries was taken by selecting 55 number of beneficiaries randomly from each selected zone. A pre-structured scheduled was used for the collection of primary data. The result of the study showed that majority of beneficiaries in subtropical zone fall under young age category while the majority of beneficiaries in intermediate zone fall under old age category. Majority of beneficiaries of both the zones fall under marginal category of land holding having less than 1 ha of land. Agriculture was the main source of livelihood for the farmers of both the zones. Beneficiaries of both the zones show favorable perception towards agro-met advisory services. Impact of agro-met advisory services revealed that the number of crops, yield of different crops, livestock possession and income from different sources were enhanced after introduction of agro-met advisory services provided by DAMU, KVK Kathua.
