Abstract

Present study aims to provide an overview of the status of weavers and weaving craft in Meghalaya and explore future strategies for its development. The study uses a qualitative research approach, including interviews with weavers, government officials, and private organizations involved in the weaving industry. The study finds that while the weaving craft in Meghalaya has faced challenges, it remains an essential part of the state’s culture and economy. The weaving clusters can be found in different parts of the state, and the weaving products of Meghalaya have gained popularity in national and international markets. To overcome the challenges faced by the weaving industry in Meghalaya, the study proposes future strategies such as skill development programs for the younger generation, better market access, financial support, technology adoption, and collaborations with designers and retailers. These strategies aim to revive the weaving craft in Meghalaya and ensure its sustainability for future generations.
