Knowledge Level of Kinnow Growers on Management of Pests and Disorders in Punjab

This study was conducted in four districts namely Fazilka, Hoshiarpur, Shri Muktsar Sahib and Bathinda. These districts were purposively selected because number of kinnow growers and area under kinnow cultivation was maximum in these districts. Major objective was to find out the knowledge level of kinnow growers about management of pests, diseases and disorders of kinnow crop. A combined list of kinnow growers comprised of 1745 farmers from four districts was obtained from the concerned Horticulture Development Officers of Horticulture Department. 200 kinnow growers were selected from the four districts with probability proportional to size sampling method. 92, 74, 18, 16 kinnow growers were selected from Fazilka, Hoshiarpur, Shri Muktsar Sahib and Bathinda respectively. Major findings of this study were more than half of the respondents had medium level of knowledge about kinnow management practices of pests, diseases and disorders and independent variables of respondents such as education, experience of kinnow cultivation, extension contacts and mass media exposure were positively and significantly correlated with Knowledge level of respondents at 0.05 level of significance. On the basis of data extension activities should be enhanced for further improving the current knowledge level of kinnow growers regarding management practices of kinnow crop.
