Abstract

Farmers of India are facing various problems in harvesting of several crops whether they are associated with agriculture, horticulture or animal husbandry. But in this present study, the main focus was on harvesting of jamun fruit. In Punjab we can see jamun fruit in each field and in each house or nearby in every tube well. According to government policies of doubling farmer’s income, farmer’s accurate product value is most important and for this harvesting skills of farmers to collect products are very important like how to pick fruit or crop from farm as different crop or fruit or herb need different ways to pick or pluck/ collect, so that good market value can be received by the farmers. Obviously tool or machinery used for harvesting the produce is very much important. There are various categories from which farmers belong like rich, poor or average. Everyone can’t afford higher machinery. So, to fulfil the need of poor farmer some research institutes and agricultural universities are involved in making/ designing of tools readily available to that group so, that they can also get good amount of money by selling their produce Also farmers are essential to economic development. They participate in different production and post production agricultural operations. For the last ten years various handy tools has been introduced for farmers to reduce their drudgery at work. Drudgery refers to the dissatisfactory and painful experiences that constraint work performance and also affects the health and productive capacity of farmer. Various studies have been done on drudgery tools at farm and home but farmers are not fully aware about the use of these tools to avoid fatigue and to increase efficiency in work. Therefore, drudgery reduction measures should be introduced to avoid some undesirable situations happened in workplace while doing field work. Keeping in view the above field trials and demonstrations has been made under KVK Barnala to assess the efficiency of drudgery reducing tools with traditional method for farmers, which can also improve their work efficiency with minimum efforts. In the year 2022-23 front line demonstrations of jamun fruit picker was done. The field trials were done by taking 30 farmers of the 3 adopted villages. The results (irrespective of the village) showed that all the farmers preferred to have this demonstrated tool. All respondents are agreed for the benefits of improved tool as this is cheap and easily available in their local markets.
