The constraints face by the respondent in adoption of sugarcane cultivation practices in Khumbi block of Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh

Abstract

A study on Adoption behaviour of Sugarcane growers was conducted in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh covering one block, six purposively selected villages, and 120 randomly selected respondents to know the adoption behaviour of the respondents as well as its associated correlates. A structured pretested interview schedule to measure the variables was prepared in consultation following standard methodology and review of literature and administered for the collection of primary data from the Sugarcane growers by using extension personal interview technique. Thus collected data were classified, tabulated, analysed with application of suitable statistical tests, interpreted and logical conclusion was drawn in the light of objectives set forth. The findings inferred that 53.33 per cent of the respondents were middle aged, illiterates 20 per cent, up to 5 members 71.67 per cent in family size. Most of the respondents were marginal farmer 45 per cent land holding. Most of the respondents 42.5 per cent belonged to low category regarding annual income. Most of the respondent’s 77.5 per cent belonged to medium category of extension participation. Majority of the respondents had medium 74.16 per cent source of information. Majority of the respondents had low 58.33 per cent level of social participation and had medium 78.33 per cent level of innovativeness. Most of the respondents had partially correct 69.16 per cent level of knowledge. Most of the respondents had moderately favourable 64.17 per cent attitude level. Most of the respondent’s 64.17 per cent belonged to partially adopted category of adoption level. The study also revealed that socio-economic variables like, age, education, family size, participation in extension activity, sources of information, innovativeness, knowledge and attitude were found significant at 5% level in influencing adoption behaviour of the sugarcane growers. The major constraint faced by the respondent’s lack of credit facility at time, lack of labour and the major suggestion devised was credit should be available earlier and timely and Availability of fertilizer and other inputs should be in time.
