Paired comparison analysis of flower crops: Unveiling profitability preferences

Abstract

The present study was carried out on seventy flower growers, they were selected randomly from two districts namely Jammu and Samba of the Jammu division in March 2023. The objective of the study was to find out the most preferred flower crop to be cultivated by the flower growers in the Jammu and Samba districts and to find out the relative preferences of flowers according to profitability hierarchy as perceived by the respondents. Five flower crops, marigold, rose, gladiolus, tuberose, and chrysanthemum, were designated and then systematically pitted against one another in sets of ten pairs. In each pair, flower growers were tasked with choosing the flower crop they deemed more profitable, method paired comparison was used. According to the preferences and perceptions of the respondents most profitable flower crop was marigold followed by Gladiolus, Rose, and Chrysanthemum. Tuberose was the least profitable as perceived by the respondents.
